About

EuropeanaTravel was a Targeted Project for cultural content within the area of 'Digital Libraries' of the eContentplus Programme. It was supported by the Europeana Foundation and by two of its founder members: CENL (The Conference of European National Librarians) and LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries).

The project's main goal was to digitise a substantial number of resources from major university libraries and national libraries of Europe to make them available via Europeana. The digitised materials include books, maps, manuscripts, photos, film negatives, postcards and other types of objects related to the theme of travel and tourism, one of the priorities content themes identified by Europeana.

A secondary objective was to further strengthen collaboration between CENL and LIBER, aimed at increasing human interoperability in support of Europeana. Finally, the project delivered an ‘aggregation service’, that is to say, a tool aimed to enable LIBER member institutions to aggregate their materials in order to be included into the Europeana portal.

EuropeanaTravel was co-ordinated by the National Library of Estonia and it was completed in April 2011.
